shopping for a MICROWAVE???

Shopping for a MICROWAVE & don't know where to start from...... Don't worry... Just read on....

TYPES OF MICROWAVES
1. SOLO MICROWAVES:
  • Are basic one's... Have a heating element... Great for simple tasks... 
  • Uses solo or basic microwave uses microwave energy to heat & defrost food....
  • Good option for just reheating of food...
  • These are usually cheap, ranging from 3000 to 12000 Rs... Widely available...
  • Can use for reheating food, cooking jacket potatoes, defrosting meat, baking...
  • Most microwaves include baking recipes and instructions for operation..
  • Its less versatile than grill & combo microwaves... Which is the only con factor...
2. GRILL MICROWAVES:
  • Is a solo microwave with heating element inside it...
  • Cost from Rs 8000 to 35000...
  • You can grill & roast... Which gives the traditional  brown finish to your food...
  • Great for grilling toast, melting cheese, making pizza's...
  • Performs good basic tasks...
  • Often comes with a metal rack to get the food closer to the grill..
  • Does not offer convection heating like combination microwaves...
  • Its more expensive than the basic microwave's...
3. COMBINATION MICROWAVE:
  • Has 3 way of cooking the food - microwave energy , grill & convection heating..
  • Hence this can heat, roast, crisp & bake...
  • Costs from Rs. 4000 to 32000...
  • It's perfect for an up coming chef...
  • Has vegetable, rice steamers, browning shelves...
  • Plenty of handy automatic functions..
  • Extra features are useless when all you want to do is just reheat and do basic meals...

 NOW LETS MOVE ON TO WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHILE BUYING

1. ACCESSORIES:
Should have these to help you get the best output
  • Browning dish - Used for searing, frying & browning the food... The browning dish has a coating on the bottom to attract the microwave energy...
  • Roasting dish - Holds the food away from the heat so that liquid does not get collected.. Ideal if cooking bacon & reheating of pastries / dry snacks...
  • Cake dish - Include cupcake trays, ring moulds, cake pans...
  • Egg boiler - microwave safe containers that can boil up to like 4 eggs... 
2. OPERATING:
  • Try and see if its difficult to operate the dial..
  • Make sure that it displays the time, weight, power clearly..
  • Use should be able to understand them...
3. CAPACITY:
  • Capacity of about 17 - 19 litres...
  • If you are the kind that throws a lot of parties or you are a family of 4 then you will need a capacity of about 28 litres...
4. LINERS:
  • Catalytic liners or easy wipe enamel coating microwaves are easy to clean...
5. EXTRA FUNCTIONS:
  • Include auto reheating, defrost, pre programming settings, easy set dials, turbo cook settings...
